Mairead Ronan launches #SeptemberSavings which offers €30 cash back on sports club fees during September

Results from our #SeptemberSavings survey into the costs of extracurricular activities for children reveals that 69% of parents spend over €500 a year on extracurricular sports activities for each child, an important but often over-looked cost that comes to the fore when children go back to school in September.

As part of the GloHealth #SeptemberSavings campaign, GloHealth revealed new research which shows that 69% of parents spend over €500 per year on extracurricular sports activities for each child, an important but often over-looked cost that comes to the fore when children go back to school in September. GloHealth is now calling on the Government to help parents save money during the difficult September back to school phase by providing tax relief on sports club costs for their children. An overwhelming 93% of parents surveyed by GloHealth said that they felt tax relief on sports fees was a good idea, indicating that parents are becoming increasingly aware of the link between children’s activity levels and their overall health and wellbeing. The research reveals that 17% of parents sign their child up for one extracurricular activity a year, while 43% will sign their child up for two activities a year. A further 27% said that they would be paying for as many as three after school activities for their child while 6% say they will sign them up for over four activities. While 67% say that their child’s enthusiasm for the activity is the main factor when choosing extracurricular activities, nearly one third say that the health and fitness benefits associated with participating are a key reason for signing them up.
