Understanding Lifetime Community Rating

What is Lifetime Community Rating (LCR)?

Lifetime Community Rating (LCR) is a change to how health insurance plans are priced. Community rating is the system in which every consumer pays the same premium for the same health-insurance product, regardless of age. Under Lifetime Community Rating (LCR), this policy is changed to reflect the age at which you take out cover. The older you join the health insurance market, the more loading you pay.

It comes into effect on 1st May 2015 and means that anyone who takes out health insurance over 34 the age of 34, will have to pay extra charges, known as ‘a loading’ on the cost of their health insurance. If you already have health insurance then LCR will have no impact on your price. But if you don’t, and you are over 34 on May 1st then your health insurance will soon become more expensive.

We have launched Ireland’s Cheapest Health Insurance Plan, Base Plan, from just €1.12 per day for one adult. In addition we have added FREE annual multi-trip travel insurance to our existing low cost plan, Net One
