GloHealth launches ‘Activate’ – a range of ground breaking health insurance plans and a first for Irish health insurance customers

Consumers can save €390* per adult on the Activate More Cash plan, with the option to upgrade to a full health insurance plan at any time

GloHealth today announces a range of ground breaking new health insurance plans –GloHealth Activate. These plans will provide a real alternative for consumers who have been thinking about leaving the health insurance market and who would be interested in a better value alternative to their current health insurance cover.

For the first time ever, the GloHealth Activate range of plans will offer Irish health insurance customers the potential to save hundreds of euro while having the peace of mind that they can upgrade back to hospital cover whenever they like.

From 1st September, health insurance customers will be able to take out a GloHealth Activate Cash plan which gives generous cash back for scans, tests and inpatient hospital stays. From the same date, the Activate Hospital plans will allow Activate Cash plan holders the flexibility to upgrade to a hospital plan whenever they want to.

Jim Dowdall, Chief Executive of GloHealth said “Many people are having to assess whether they can afford to maintain their health insurance.  My message is – if you’re thinking of giving up health insurance, GloHealth’s Activate plans could be just what you need. You get great cash benefits at a great price and you can also upgrade back to cover for hospital treatment when you want to.”

The GloHealth Activate Cash plans give customers generous cash back for scans, tests and other diagnoses including consultant visits, access to GloHealth’s 24hr Nurse Line and cash back for every night you spend in hospital (up to 10 nights). There are two plans to choose from – Activate Cash and Activate More Cash.  Customers choose the cash plan based on how much they want to pay and how much cash back they would like to receive for each benefit.

The GloHealth Activate Hospital plans give you access to hospital treatment as a private patient. There are two plans to choose from – Activate Hospital and Activate More Hospital.  Activate Hospital gives you faster private access to public hospitals and Activate More Hospital gives you faster private access to a range of public and private hospitals.

Importantly and uniquely in the Irish market, the Activate Hospital plans allow you to upgrade from the corresponding Activate Cash plans at any time and GloHealth will reduce the upgrade waiting period by two years for pre-existing conditions. This will mean that for people under the age of 65, they can upgrade back to hospital cover without any waiting period applying to the upgrade in cover.

This flexibility will give consumers the greatest level of control ever over their health cover and the price that they pay.

A customer can be covered on the Activate Cash plan for as little as €33** per adult per month but will have the ability to access the benefits on the Activate Hospital plan– a full health insurance plan – at any time they want by simply paying the cost difference between the plans. If they purchase the Activate More Cash Plan and don’t want to upgrade to the Activate More Hospital plan, savings of €390* per adult can be made if that member does not upgrade.

Jim Dowdall, Chief Executive of GloHealth said “Customers want peace of mind with their health insurance but they are challenged with rising costs. Since our launch, GloHealth has provided our customers with innovative health cover which they can tailor to their needs. Our new Activate range takes this to a new level.  You only have to pay for a cash plan which provides cash back for diagnostics and inpatient stays knowing that you can upgrade to full hospital cover available in the Activate Hospital plans when you want to.”
